Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 28/08/17

Donnelly Group SFC Rd 2
Cross V Maghery .
On Friday night , The Athletic Grounds was the setting for our second round clash of the Armagh Senior Championship .
Our opponents were County champions , Maghery .
Due to extra time in the earlier match throw in was delayed until 9.00pm.
A wet and dreary evening meant conditions were very slippy .
The County champions got off to a good start registering four points on the scoreboard by the seventh minute . We took a while to settle but thanks to points from Rían O’Neill (2) and Stephen Kernan , we were only one behind at the break .
Aaron Kernan got a point in the opening minutes of the second half just before Jamie Clarke slotted the ball to the Maghery net . Rían O’Neill put the ball over the bar to increase our lead . Maghery got a point , their first score in thirty eight minutes .Just after the point Maghery got their first goal of the night thanks to a James Lavery shot.
A Paul Hughes point meant that with ten minutes to go the game was level but two goals and a point in quick succession from Maghery give them a commanding lead which they never relinquished , two points from us in the dying minutes narrowed the gap but it wasn’t to be our night and Maghery ran out winners on a scoreline of ;
Maghery 3-07 Cross 1-08 .
Hard luck lads .
Details of our next game will be posted on our social media sites .

U18 Div 1 Championship Quarter Final :
On Monday night our minor team travelled to Lurgan to play St Peters in the quarter final of the Div 1 Championship Quarter Final .
A dark dismal evening meant visibility was very poor .
St Peters opened the scoring with a point . Two points for us give us the lead but a St Peters goal in the seventh minute edged them in front . Three more points for us and a point for St Peters meant that with ten minutes to go to the half time whistle we were all square . Points from Cían McConville (2) and Conor Savage in the final minutes of the first half give us a lead of three at the break .
The second half was only seconds underway when Cían McConville scored a point from a free . St Peters scored two points to put just two between the teams . John Kernan scored two great points but St Peters responded scoring three points before Darren McDonnell put the ball into the back of the St Peters net . Cross pushed on scoring another two points but St Peters refused to give up , they registered another two points. The final minutes of the game saw four scores , three points for us and a point for St Peters .
St Peters 1-10 Cross 1-16
