Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 02/10/17

MFC Final
Cross V Clann Éireann
A blistering start from Clann Éireann saw them register 1-05 in the first quarter of the game . We took a while to settle but two points from Daniel Cumiskey in the 15th & 16th minutes got our scoring underway . A point from Clann Éireann’s Tiernan kelly increased their lead to seven with ten minutes to go until half time . A superb strike from the boot of Oisín Doyle sailed over the bar . Minutes later a sideline kick from substitute Rory O’Connor to Patsy Finnegan who passed to Cían Mcconville who hit a rasper of a shot which resulted in our first goal of the game . Cían got his second goal of the match two minutes later . The dying minutes of the first half saw Cían McConville convert a ’45 and Clann Éireann score a point . At half time we were only trailing by a point .
Both sides exchanged points at the start of the second half . A great pass from John Kernan to Rory O’Connor who fisted the ball into the back of the Clann Éireann net to give us our third goal and ultimately put us in the lead . Clann Éireann got a hat-trick of points and with five minutes to go we trailed by one .
Both sides scored a further two points and as the whistle went , the bare minimum still
seperated the teams .
Cross 3-06 Clann Éireann 1-13

SFC Semi Final
Cross V Maghery
The second game in the Athletic Grounds saw us face County Champions Maghery in the semi final of the Armagh Senior Championship.
A highly exciting encounter which saw some fine scores from both sides .
It was a Padraig Stuttard point who got the scoring underway when the game was only seconds old . Minutes later , Rían O’Neill scored a superb long range point before Stefan Forker got Maghery’s first score , a point in the fifth minute . Aaron Kernan converted a free to leave us ahead by two but that was all about to change , two goals , Ronan Lappin & Stephen Cusack the scorers and two points for Maghery in a matter of minutes give them a commanding lead . Three points for us , Rían O’Neill (2) and Aaron Kernan (f) reduced the lead but Maghery responded scoring another three points . With five minutes left until half time , a point each from Rían and Oisín O’Neill kept us in contention and just before the half time whilstle both sides scored again , a point for us from the boot of Stephen Kernan .
We started off the second half the brightest , registering three points to leave one between us with the second half only minutes old .
Maghery scored two points in quick succession , Paul Hughes scored a point to bring the lead back to just one again between the sides midway through the second half . Maghery continued to push on getting the next two scores . Oisin O’Neill scored a point to keep us in contention but Maghery scored again . Aaron Kernan converted a free and as the game entered injury time Maghery scored a point to put them three in front as the final whistle blew .
