Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 02/09/19

Armagh U18.5 Minor Championship QF
Madden V Cross
Monday evening the minor team and management travelled to Madden. Martin Conroy was the man in the middle.
The scoring of the match opened in the fourth minute, James Teelan slotted over a point and Madden converted a free.
Points from Oisin Doyle and Dara O’Callaghan  followed to give us a narrow lead with the game only minutes old. Both sides had a number of missed opportunities. Two points from the home-side (1,F) left the game all square with ten to go until the break.
We finished the half strong, scoring 1-4 in those final minutes, James Teelan the goal scorer to leave the score at the break;
Madden 0-03 Cross 1-07

We scored the first score of the second half thanks to a James Teelan point. Some excellent goal keeping from our number 1, Stephen Morgan prevented the Madden boys from scoring.
Both sides traded points as the game entered the last quarter.
Caolan Dooley registered a point, seconds later the ball was the opposite end of the field and Martin Conroy deemed a foul had been committed and awarded Madden a penalty. Stephen Morgan pulled off a fantastic save but the ball rebounded and they kicked it into the net to reduce the deficit.
We responded, two points in as many minutes, both super scores, substitute Ronan Fitzpatrick and Oisin Doyle the scorers. Madden scored three points one after the another but as the game drew to a close, Ruairi Kieran and Dara O’Callaghan (F) brought the scoring to a close and we booked a place in the semi final of the Armagh Minor Championship.

Cross V Middletown
Saturday evening we welcomed Middletown to St Oliver Plunkett park for round three of the Intermediate Football Championship.
The first half was a close encounter with both sides matching score for score and only one point separated the sides at the break;
Cross 0-7 Middletown 0-6
The second half was ten minutes old when the opening score came thanks to a Callum Kieran point.
We then took full control of the game, scoring 2-05 without reply, John Murtagh & Callum Kieran the goal scorers to put the game firmly out of Middletown’s reach. The final minutes of the game where to be the away sides best spell of the second period, they  registered 1–03 to leave the score at full time;
Cross 2-13 Middletown 1-09
Well done lads and management

Cross Ladies Football Notes:

A special note: We would like to wish club member Hollie McLoughlin and her family the very best in her move to Kerry, in the coming weeks. Hollie has been playing with us for two years, at U10 and we have many fond memories of blitzes and matches with your team mates. We know that whatever club you join, they are gaining a great player and club member.

U12 Championship Final v Pearse Ogs:

if anyone wanted to see how much ladies football has developed and progressed in our club, they should’ve attended this match. For the last two seasons we have struggled to field at U12, and this year we are in a championship final with 11 subs eager to get a game. It was an impossible task picking a team, as each player on this panel has trained and worked hard all year. We knew going into this match it would be a tough match and the windy conditions did not help things at all. It was a game of end to end action, with each and every player fighting hard to contest this final, however it wasn’t to be.

The final score 1-14 to 1-09

U14 girls do the double:

Legends Of The Game
On Saturday seventy five people left the club to travel to Croke Park for the Legends Tour which was led by our very own Joe & Aaron Kernan. It was a fantastic and proud occasion for the club. It was amazing to hear first hand Joe and Aaron’s accounts of their experiences of Croke Park, Aaron as a player and Joe has both a player and a manager.
Gerry our tour guide was a former Monaghan goalkeeper who had played against Armagh when Joe was a player. We visited the changing rooms (the changing rooms that Kerry used on All Ireland final day) which held so many memories for Joe and Aaron, the U10.5 squad led us out of the changing rooms to pitch side where we all took seats in the VIP area and heard some more first hand accounts from Aaron and Joe. We then went back inside where Sam Maguire was waiting for us, there was time for photos, craic and more reminiscing. The legends tour on Saturday created so many wonderful memories especially for our young people, we thank Aaron and Joe for a fantastic tour.
The U10 squad and mentors travelled to Ballyboden St Endas for a challenge match. My group dined in style with lunch in the Croke Park Hotel. A brilliant  day was had by all. We send our sincere thanks to Niamh McCoy, Director, Croke Park Museum for all her assistance and co-operation in organising the tour and huge thanks to Gerry our tour guide. Thanks also to bus drivers, Veronica and Cellsus.
A special mention for our U10.5 squad and their mentors, whose presence and excitement enriched the experience for us all.
Bobby Browne Tournament
U12.5 teams and mentors travelled to Carrickcruppen on Saturday to participate in the Bobby Browne blitz.
