Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 04/07/22
Reserve Championship Rd 1
Cross V Madden
Following our win on Wednesday night against Pearse Ogs in the preliminary round of the Reserve championship, we welcomed Madden to Cross for the first round clash. Tony O’Hare was the man in charge. The first half was a low scoring affair, all scores coming from play. Points for Ronan Finnegan (2) James Coyle and Ryan Conlon, the visitors slotted over 2 points.
Cross 0-4 Madden 0-2
Madden got off to a dream start as play resumed, a goal in the opening minutes and for the first time in the match, they had the lead but only for a short time, Stephen Fiddler Finnegan converted a free to level matters. Both sides traded points, ours coming from the boot of Shane Gallagher. Both sides had missed chances and as the game entered the last quarter, Fiddler hit a super strike which sailed over to edge us in front once more. Madden converted a free and with minutes remaining the sides could not be separated. Just as the clock hit normal time, Madden got a point from play to give them the advantage before substitute, James Teelan got the equaliser to send the game into extra time.
Cross 0-8 madden 1-5
The start of extra time replicated the start of the second half, Madden had the ball in our net and they now had an early lead, a significant lead as legs were tiring. A Bernard Cassidy point just before the break, brought it back to a two point game.
Cross 0-9 Madden 2-5
The second period of extra time was exciting stuff, Ryan Conlon brought it down to the narrowest of margins at the start of play. James Teelan for the second time in the match got the equaliser. A few tense minutes passed but the final whistle blew and the sides were even stevens! In games of old, a replay would be called but that is not how things are in the modern game, a repeat of Croke Park in St Oliver Plunkett Park, Penalties!
Cr0ss 0-11 Madden 2-5
Madden were first up, converting their first penalty. James for the third time levelled matters, when he struck his penalty well. Madden’s second, a super save from Conor. Ryan Conlon scored our second. Maddens third was saved again. James Coyle registered our third. Madden converted their fourth as did Cheesy, to a rapturous applause! We now proceed to the QF. The draw to see who our opponents are, will take place on Tuesday night.
