Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 04/12/17

U21 Senior Championship Final
Cross V Killeavey

The Intermediate final which Mullaghbawn won preceded the senior final .
After heavy rain in the morning , conditions were very greasy .
Both sides were quick to register a score in the opening minutes , midfielder Rían O’Neill the scorer for us . A trio of points , Micéal Mccabe(f) , Oisín O’Neill(f) & Stephen Morris left us with an early lead midway through the first half . A ’45 from Killeavey which they converted reduced our lead to just two between the sides .
Great goalkeeping from Jamie McEvoy prevented Killeavey from narrowing the gap .
Points from Rían O’Neill and Calumn kieran strengthened our lead with ten to go until the break . As the first half drew to a close both sides scored two points each ( Aidan Rushe & Rían O’Neill ) to leave four between the sides at the half way point .
Killeavey got off to a glorious start minutes after the ball was thrown in to get the second half underway , scoring a goal and a point to level matters , 0-8 to 1-05.
We responded immediately , a point from the boot of Calum Kieran and a superb goal thanks to a great finish by Colin O’Connor regained the lead for us and put us in a commanding position . Oisín O’Neill registered another point for us before the score of the match came , a fantastic catch from midfielder Stephen Morris who passed the ball to Cían Mcconville who struck the ball superbly and it sailed over the Killeavey crossbar . Killeavey scored a point to reduce the deficit before the O’Neill brothers scored a point each to extend our lead . Killeavey converted a free in the closing minutes of the game but the victory was sealed and as the ref blew the whistle for full time , joyous celebrations erupted as Captain Aidan Rushe lifted the cup and we became U21 County Champions once again  . Forty years ago we won our first U21 title captained by Michael McConville .
