Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 06/05/19

Presentation Night
On Saturday night we held our annual presentation Night. This was a very special evening for a very special group of men, we honoured and paid tribute to the Crossmaglen Rangers teams of the ‘60s who  were hugely successful winning five Senior league and Championship titles in that decade.
Three legends from that era, Brendan Donaghy, Paddy Fitzpatrick & Tom McCreesh took part in a Q & A session with MC Miceal Moley, it was fantastic to hear first hand about matches they played, players and teams they encountered and the many victories they were part of.
Each member of the 1960’s team were presented with a commemorative tie and lapel pin.
We also congratulated and celebrated a fantastic 2018 where our seniors and minors were crowned Armagh Champions.
It was a super night where old friends reunited, football games were replayed and successes were relived.
Thanks very much to Mona and staff for the beautiful meal, Daniel Donegan DJ for the music and to the organising committee especially Aaron Kernan and Gene Duffy for  organising such a wonderful occasion, the first of many where we will remember and honour past teams who brought such glory to our club and their lasting legacy lives on today.
Our 1960’s Victorious teams

Silverbridge V Cross
On Friday evening, our Senior team travelled to neighbours, Silverbridge for the round five clash of the Armagh Senior football league.
A minutes silence for the late Gerry Moley was observed before Stephen McKinley threw in the ball to get proceedings underway.
Silverbridge playing with a strong breeze were first to register on the scoreboard, a point from Fionnan Burns when the game was just minutes old. It took a wee while longer for us to settle but two points in quick succession from Paul McKeown and Colin  O’Connor give us a narrow lead with ten gone on the clock.
Both sides had missed opportunities.
Some excellent saves from our number 1, Tiarnan McConville kept the Bridge at bay.
As the  game hit the midway point of the first half, we went on a scoring spree, scoring 1-3 without reply, Aaron, Kyle and Mel the point scorers which was followed by the goal, a super pass from Aaron to Kyle who fisted the ball ino the oppositions net to put us in a commanding position with minutes to go until the break. Two points a piece from each team left the score at half time;
Silverbridge 0-04 Cross 1-07
The home side started the second half the strongest scoring two points (1,F) to reduce the deficit. Mel Boyce converted a free to get us off the mark. Both sides registered a point and as the game entered the last quarter our lead was very much intact. The last quarter of the game saw the score of the match, a long range point from the boot of Paul McKeown which sailed over the bar. Callum Cumiskey scored a point before two points for Silverbridge brought the scoring to a close and saw us run out winners on a score line of;
Silverbridge 0-09 Cross 1-11
Well done lads and management.
