Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 06/07/18

Sponsor A Ball

Casey’s Eurospar, Newry Rd sponsored the ball for our Senior league fixture with Dromintee. Thanks very much to the Casey family for your sponsorship and ongoing support for the club.

Pic below; Brian & Peter Casey present the ball to Aidan Rushe.

SFL Div 1A

Dromintee V Cross

Our Senior team were in action on Friday night where they travelled to Dromintee for their league fixture.
The first half was an even encounter with each side matching score for score, Dromintee got the only goal of the half just before the half way point and at the break only a point seperated the teams;
Dromintee 1-08 Cross 0-10
Dromintee were quick off the mark in the second half, registering two points in the
opening minutes but we responded scoring a goal to level the game. The score remained a draw for a short period of time because Dromintee scored 1-02 in quick succession to give them a strong lead. A Rian O’Neill point and a goal just before the half way point of the second half left just one between the sides once again. Both sides exchanged points before Dromintee scored their third goal. The final minutes of the game saw us score three points to Dromintee’s two points and at the end of the match a goal was the differnece.
Dromintee 3-14 Cross 2-14

Intermediate League Div 2B

Shane O’Neills V Cross

On a damp and dismal Wednesday night, we travelled to Camlough to play Shane O’Neills in the Intermediate league.
The first half we took a while to settle , some good goalkeeping from Stephen Ogle ensured we kept close to Shane O’Neills and at the midway point of the first half the game was all square, three a piece. A Shane Mcconville point give us the lead before Shane O’Neills went on a scoring spree, scoring 1-02 in a matter of minutes to put them in a commanding position. Both sides exchanged points and as first half drew to a close, points from Ryan Conlon and Ruairi O’Neill left us trailing by just two at the break.
Shane O’Neills 1-06 Cross 0-07
The second half remained a close affair until the last quarter where Shane’s took control of the game, scoring five points to seal the victory on a scoreline of;
Shane O’Neills 1-13 Cross 0-10
The win for Shane O’Neills ensured they were crowned Intermediate League Division 2B Champions, congratulations to the Shane O’Neills team and management.

Gaelic Sunday

On Sunday evening, to mark an important milestone in Irish history, Gaelic Sunday, we welcomed historian, author and gael Donal McAnnallen to the Rangers Hall.
Donal spoke about the events Of Gaelic Sunday one hundred years ago and the impact it had on the GAA locally and in particular a match where Crossmaglen Plunkett’s  played Dorsey Emmett’s in Camlough on that historic day.
Well done to our Irish Cultural Officer, Johanne Donnelly for organising the event and huge thanks to Donal for attending the hall and for his interesting and informative lecture.
