Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 07/11/22

Ulster SFC Club Prelim Rd

Cross V Ballybay

A packed Athletic Grounds was the setting for our clash with Monaghan champions, Ballybay. Noel Mooney from Cavan was the man in the middle. The game was only minutes old when high drama ensued, a penalty awarded to Ballybay, the decision to award a penalty not clear but Ballybay struck it well and this give them an early lead. Our opening score from play came in  the seventh minute, Cian the scorer. Seconds later, a super pass from Jamie to Rian who hit a rasper  of a shot into the Ballybay net. We now led by the bare minimum. Both sides traded points, Caolan from play. As the game entered the second quarter, two points without reply, Jamie and Ronan, extended our lead. Drew Wylie slotted over a point followed by a point from Cian. The final scores of the half were Ballybays, scored by Paul Finlay and at the midway point, the difference was just one.

Cross 1-5 Ballybay 1-4

Not long after the second period of play had commenced, Ballybay had equalised the game. They pushed on, three points one after another in the space of three minutes, to give them the lead once more. Caolan reduced it back to two with a super score but this was to be short lived, Ballybay scored their second goal, points from Dessie Ward, Paul Finlay and Christopher McGuinness from a mark, give them a strong lead with fifteen minutes to go. We had a number of missed opportunities in the last quarter, points from Cian and Rian (2) were registered but it was too be Ballybay’s day.

Hard luck lads!
