SFC Qualifier Round 2
Cross V Wolfe Tones

Our senior team played Wolfe Tones last night in the second round of the Armagh Senior Football Championship Qualifier Round 2. A wet and windy Athletic Grounds was the venue and Cross played against a  strong breeze in the first half . Wolfe Tones had two points registered by the fifth minute . Aaron Kernan converted a free in the sixth minute to get us off the mark .Wolfe Tones scored another point before Aaron Kernan converted another free to put one between the teams. A Paul Hughes point levelled matters . A fantastic catch from midfielder Stephen Morris to Oisín O’Neill who put the ball over the bar to put us in the lead for the first time. With Aaron Kernan making fantastic runs through the middle and his distribution of the ball excellent ,  we went on a spree of scoring , points from Stephen Morris , Oisín O’Neill (2) and  Rían O’Neill(1). We exchanged points but minutes later James Lavery  scored a goal for Tones and that left just one between the sides . A point each for the O’Neill brothers in the final minutes of the first half increased our lead but just as we entered injury time Wolfe Tones scored another point  but the half ended as it had started for us with Aaron Kernan converting a free and that left three between the sides at the break . A great long range effort from Aaron Kernan opened the second half scoring . The next ten minutes saw us score 5 points , 4 from play , Rían O’Neill (2), Martin Aherne (2) and Aaron Kernan(1) . A Wolfe Tones point , their first score of the second half came seconds before Kyle Carragher had the ball in the back of the Wolfe Tones net . The dying minutes saw three scores in the game , 2 points for us and a point for Wolfe Tones.

Well done lads / management .

Junior Football Championship Quarter Final
Cross V Killeavey II

On Saturday evening our Junior team travelled to Cullyhanna to play Killeavey II. Conditions were poor after all the rain leaving a very wet surface.
We got off to a glorious start , a fantastic pass from midfielder Kevin McShane to Aaron Mostyn who struck a superb shot into the back of the Killeavey net .
Points from Eoin Keenan, Ronan Finnegan(3) and Cormac Clarke (free)extended our lead . With only eight minutes on the clock we scored our second goal thanks to a John Murtagh shot.
Great goalkeeping by Jamie McEvoy and defending by our full back Sean McDonnell meant that Killeavey didn’t register their first score , a point until the 11th minute . Ronan Finnegan got his 4th point of the match before Killeavey scored their second . We extended our lead with a terrific long range shot from John Murtagh which sailed over the Killeavey crossbar.
With only five minutes remaining of normal time until the break , Killeavey were awarded a penalty which they converted .
We responded immediately scoring three points in as many minutes to leave us leading by 1-08 at half time .
Killeavey started the second half the brightest , having registered three points before we got our first score of the second half , a point thanks to substitute Francis Hanratty . Killeavey chipped away at our lead , scoring another four points but a point each from John Murtagh and Ryan Conlon in the dying minutes put the game firmly out of Killeavey’s reach. As the game went into injury time , Killeavey scored a point before Gary Marshall blew the full time whistle . The semi final of the Armagh Junior Championship now awaits us .
Cross : 2-13 Killeavey II : 1-10
Cross Scorers ; John Murtagh (1-03) , Ronan Finnegan (0-5) Aaron Moyston (1-0), Callum Cumiskey (0-1) ,Cormac Clarke (0-1) , Eoin Keenan (0-1) , Francis Hanratty(0-1) Ryan Conlon (0-1)

U18 Division 1 Championship Semi Final .
On Monday evening our minor team played Grange in the semi final of the championship.
Ballymacnab was the venue and a dull evening meant that the game finished under lights .
A highly competitive first half saw some fine scores from both sides . With only five minutes on the clock , the sides were level with two a piece .
Points from Eugene Savage , Conor Savage , Darren McDonnell , Aaron Hughes and Odhrán Kieran put us well in the lead with ten minutes left to the break but the final minutes of the first half saw Grange score four points which left just the bare minimum between the sides at half time .
Grange opened the scoring with a point at the very start of the second half but less than a minute later , Cían McConville hit a super shot which ended up in the back of the Grange net . A magnificent pass from Rory O’Connor to Midfielder John Kernan who fired the ball pass the Grange goalie give us our second goal of the night . Two points from Grange kept them in contention but we pushed on with points from Cían McConville , John Kernan and Rory O’Connor which strengthened our lead and put us firmly in the driving seat .
Grange continued to battle on , scoring three points in as many minutes but two goals from Oisín Doyle within a minute of each other sealed the victory for us . The closing minutes saw us score two excellent points , the first a long range point from Cían McConville and the other from the boot of Daniel Cumiskey .
Cross 4-15 Grange 0-14
We will now face Clan Éireann in the final on the 30th September.
