Club Notes 14/08/17

Donnelly Group Armagh SFC
Cross V Whitecross
Cullyhanna was the venue for our first round game of the Armagh Senior Football Championship.  Whitecross were our opponents and the referee was Raymond Watters .
We started off the brightest, some fine points in the opening ten minutes from Rían O’Neill (3), Seanie McConville and Stephen Kernan.  A superb shot from Oisín O’Neill was saved by the Whitecross goalie and went over the bar to extend our lead.  Whitecross got their opening score, a point in the 19th minute.
In the closing ten minutes of the first half, we took control of the game, scoring another seven points.  Whitecross responded with three points just before the break.
A Rían O’Neill point opened the scoring in the second half, quickly followed by a Whitecross point.  Michael McNamee scored a point and that was to be our last score for another twenty minutes which saw Whitecross score 1-6 and leave them trailing by just the bare minimum.
The final minutes of the game saw a highly entertaining conclusion with Rico Kelly excelling in defence. Rían O’Neill scored his tenth point of the game in the last minutes of normal time.  Over five minutes of injury time was played, Michael McNamee scored a point for us which ultimately was to be the difference at the final whistle. Whitecross scored two points deep into injury time but it wasn’t enough and we ran out winners on a scoreline of Cross 0-17   Whitecross  1-13 – Well done lads .
