Armagh Senior Football Championship Final

Cross V Clann Eireann

All roads led to the Athletic Grounds on Sunday afternoon for the County final. A dull and damp day left conditions slippy. The opening quarter both sides had missed chances, points from Callum Cumiskey (2) and Rian O’Neill to a single point from the opposition give us  a narrow lead at the first water break. Play resumed and Clann Eireann stepped up a gear, two points without reply and the game was all square with ten to go until the break. Both sides scored points from frees converted. Clann Eireann took the lead for the first time in the game in the 25th minute. (F). A super strike from Rian levelled matters  just before the half time whistle.

Cross 0-5 Clann Eireann 0-5

Thre third quarter of the game was our best spell, six points one after another to leave us in a commanding position for the last quarter. Clann Eireann scored a point from a free to leave five the difference at the second water break. A replica of what happened after the first water break, the game swung in Clann Eireann’s favour, three points in rapid succession left it a two point game. A James Morgan point from play steadied our lead but seconds later, the first goal of the contest came, Ruairi McDonald had it in the back of out net to level matters. Both sides traded points, the sides couldn’t be separated and a draw looked likely. A point a piece from the O’Neill brothers give us breathing space with just three minutes of normal time remaining but this was to be short lived, Clann Eireann scored their second goal and give them the narrowest of lead with normal time near up. Three minutes of extra time was announced. Rian brought it  back to even stevens but two points from Conor Turbitt in injury time sealed the victory for them.

Cross 0-16 Clann Eireann 2-12.

Hard luck lads on a gallant performance. The huge crowd who turned up to welcome you homie is testament to how proud we are of you all. Congratulations to Clann Eireann.
