Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 16/05/22

Field Rota Wk 16th May

SFL & IFL

Mixed fortunes for us on the football field at the weekend.

SFL; Madden V Cross

Our seniors travelled to Madden. A sunny warm evening left conditions ideal. A game of two halves, we dominated the first and had built up a strong lead by the mid way point.

Madden 0-3 Cross 0-8

The second half was the opposite, the home side settled quickly after play resumed, two points in the opening minutes to reduce our lead. Our opening score came in the 35th minute, Dara O’Callaghan from play. Then Madden had their best spell of the match, 1-3, without reply, to give them the lead for the first time in the match. Both sides traded points, two was still the difference. Dara O’Callaghan  slotted over a point to leave the bare minimum the difference as we entered the last quarter. This was to be short lived, a point from play from Madden brought it back to two. We had a number of missed opportunities. With minutes remaining on the clock, Ronan hit a super long range point, followed quickly by a point from Seannie McConville to level matters just before normal time and an exciting finale was on the cards. It looked like a draw would be the result but as the game entered injury time, two points one after the other from Madden, (1,F) was enough to seal the victory for them and secure the points. Hard luck lads on what was an exciting and sporting game.

Madden 1-12 Cross 0-13

IFL; Forkhill V Cross

Our seconds traveled to a a blustery Forkhill on Sunday afternoon. The first quarter, the home side dominated, 0-5 to 0-2. The start of the second quarter, Forkhill scored two points within a minute to stretch their lead, points from Ronan Finnegan, Paul McKeown and Colin O’Connor left two the difference. Forkhill scored a point from a free but Colin O’Connor replicated this and Paul McKeown scored his second point to bring the scoring of the half to a close with just one between the teams;

Forkhill 0-8 Cross 0-7

The ball was not long thrown in when Colin O’Connor had equalised matters, we scored a point, Forkhill scored two, (1,F)  and they had the narrow margin of a lead once more. Two points in quick succession for us, edged us in front. Again, Forkhill responded, three points all from play and once again the game swung the other way and they had a two point advantage. Ronan got a point from a free, Forkhill matched this with a point from play. Two points one after the other for us and we were even stevens again. Another point from play from the home team give them the advantage with seconds remaining until the full time whistle. As the game entered injury time, substitute, Ryan Conlon, brought it back to a draw before a Paul McKeown point sailed over the cross bar to a rapturous cheer from the Rangers supporters, this was to be the winning score in what was a thrilling game. Well done lads!

Forkhill 0-15 Cross 0-16
