U19 Division 1 Championship SF

Cross V Madden

Ballymacnab was the setting for our U19 Division one clash against Madden. Jake Magill was the man in the middle.  It took near ten minutes before the first score of the contest was registered, Odhran Caraher, the point scorer from play. The last few minutes of the first quarter saw us add 1-2 to our tally, a point each from Ryan Martin & Ronan Fitzpatrick, both from long range, and a super pass from Jack Crummie to Caolan Finnegan who stuck it superbly into the back of the Madden net. Madden were awarded a penalty which they shot wide, just as the game entered the second quarter. The opposition’s opening score came in the twentieth minute, a point from play. Both teams were reduced to fourteen with five minutes remaining on the clock until half time. Fitzy and Stringer added a point each before Madden got the last score of the first half, a point. Just before the half time whistle, Fitzy received  a second yellow. The score at the mid way point was;
Cross 1-4  Madden 0-2
The opening minutes of the second half we stretched our lead, two points one after the other from Aaron ONeill (1,’45 ). Madden then had their best spell of the match, 1-3 without reply and all of a sudden, we were down to a one point game. Caolan Finnegan extended the lead to two with twelves minutes to go. Both sides had missed chances. The last few minutes of the game, saw a controversial decision where we lost another player  to a red card. Madden converted two frees to level the match and to ensure we were in for an exciting finale and it looked like the game could go to extra time. Just as the game entered injury time, we were awarded a free which Aaron O’Neill struck superbly and it sailed over the bar to give us the lead with just seconds remaining . We hung on to win on a score line of;
Cross 1-8  Madden 1-7

Cross: C Deery, P Larkin, T Og Duffy (C), R Stuttard, O Caraher (0-1), H Cumiskey, R McAllister, R Fitzpatrick (0-1), P Blessing, S Gallagher, B Cassidy, R Martin (0-1), J Crummie, C Finnegan (1-2),  A O’Neill (0-3)

Subs: F Moley for  R McAllister, A Haughey for P Larkin, B Duffy for S Gallagher.

Well done lads and management.
