Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 19/12/18

Ulster SFC Semi Final

Cross V Gaoth Dobhair

A very cold and blustery Healey Park was the setting for our Ulster Senior football Semi Final against Donegal’s, Goath Dobhair.
The opening minutes were an even affair, two points a piece from each side. Johnny Hanratty scored a point to give us a narrow lead before Gaoth Dobhair got their first goal. Rían O’Neill converted a free to bring it back to a one point game.
The Donegal men went on a scoring spree, scoring 1-03.  Kyle scored a point seconds before Goath Dobhair were awarded a penalty which they scored to put them in a commanding position with just minutes left until the break. Those final minutes we scored four unanswered points to leave the score at the break;
Cross 0-09 Gaoth Dobhair 3-05
The start of the second half saw us reduced to fourteen men when Johnny Hanratty was sent off. The opening minutes of the second half saw both sides register two points on the board before Gaoth Dobhair scored their fourth goal to increase and strengthen their lead and to put the game firmly out of our reach, the final quarter saw some fine scores from both sides. It was to be Gaoth Dobhair’s day and they won on a score line of;
Cross 0-16 Gaoth Dobhair 4-11
Hard luck to the entire squad and management. We are so proud of you all.
Congratulations to Gaoth Dobhair.

Trocaire Launch

During the week,  Joe, Aaron & James Kernan launched  the Trócaire Christmas ‘Gifts Of Love range’. The launch took place in St Oliver Plunkett Park.

Joe and Aaron are urging people to support the campaign.

Launching their 2018 Christmas Gifts range, Trocaire revealed  that generous people across the island of Ireland spent nearly £670,000 on the charity’s gift range last year, allowing the development agency to bring support to more than 27,000 families living in some of the world’s poorest countries

This support provided families in the developing world with clean water, essential tools, livestock and help with education, the charity said.

Joe has expressed his delight with being asked to help launch this marvellous initiative;

“My family and I are absolutely delighted to support Trócaire’s great work and their Christmas Gifts. This year’s gifts include a ‘Help for Grandparents’ sponsorship, which allows people to support grandparents raising children who have lost their parents to illness, accident or war. I feel this is a great way to try to help families who are living in such testing circumstances.”

Trócaire CEO Caoimhe de Barra issued a statement following the launch;

 “We are delighted that the Kernan family have helped us to launch Trócaire’s Christmas Gifts for 2018 and we hope the Irish public and our supporters continue to provide such tremendous support for our work in over 20 developing countries.”

 There are 14 Trócaire gifts to choose from, ranging in price from £7 to £1000 such as chicks, beehives and solar lamps. This year, there are also a number of new additions including ‘Help for Grandparents’,which will support those who are raising their grandchildren in the developing world, and ‘School Kits’ to send a child to school.

You can buy Trócaire gifts online atwww.trocaire.org/giftsby calling 0800 912 1200.

Happy Faces, Fords Cross will be supporting Women’s Aid and The Homeless Organisation by having a ‘gift tree’.
You don’t have to work in or attend Happy Faces to take part. Cards will be on their Christmas tree in the hallway, you pick a card and return it  with your gift to Happy Faces. If you want anymore details please see Happy Faces FB page.

Man Shed
The club was recently represented at a community meeting to discuss the setting up of  a ‘Man Shed ‘ in the locality.
Men’s shed across Ireland are the second biggest male group after the GAA and play an important role in today’s society.
More details to follow in the coming months but  this would be an ideal group for any of our older male members who perhaps  are retired, have been made redundant or have suffered a bereavement.
