U17  Armagh Championship Final

Cross V Clan na Gael

All roads led to the Athletic Grounds on Tuesday night for the Armagh U17 division 1 championship final. It took both teams a few minutes to settle, Caolan Finnegan getting our opening score, a point which was matched by the Lurgan boys. A super goal from Dara O’Neill in the tenth minute give us an early lead. Both sides traded points once again and as the game entered the second quarter, the goal was the difference. Some super goal keeping from our number 1, Conor Derry kept our lead in tact. We had a number of missed opportunities in what was a fast moving and exciting encounter. As the minutes ticked down to the break, three points from Clans and our second goal coming thanks to the younger O’Neill Brother, Aaron left the score at the mid way point;

Cross 2-2  Clans 0-5

The second half was only seconds old when Ronan Fitzpatrick had registered his second point to stretch our lead but a Clans point immediately afterwards brought it back to a three point game. Caolan scored his second point but again Clans matched it when they converted a free and once again a goal was the difference but this was all to change, three unanswered points for us and as we entered the last quarter we were in a comfortable position. Clan na Gael responded, three points one after another to reduce the deficit but with the finishing line in sight, we stepped up a gear, vice captain Ronan Fitzpatrick scored 2-1 in two minutes to put the game firmly out of Clans reach but they never give up, again Conor stood firm in goals as they kept the pressure up, they scored three points in the dying minutes of the game to leave the score at full time;

Cross 4-08 Clan na Gael 0-13

Well done boys on a fantastic all round team performance. Due to Covid restrictions, jubilant fans stood behind the fence as joint Captains, Ronan Fitzpatrick and Caolan Finnegan lifted the trophy. Congratulations  to the entire squad, mentors, Tim, Leo and Alan.

Thanks to U17 team sponsor, Shorts Sports for their generosity and suppoort and to B Cassidy & Sons who sponsorted the match ball.

Armagh U15 Division 3 Championship QF

Sarsfields V Cross

Our U15’s had an early start on Sunday when they travelled to Sarsfields for the QF Armagh Division three championship. Despite a gallant effort, the boys came up against a very strong Sarsfields side and it was the home side who desevedly progress in the Armagh division 3 championship. Hard luck lads and management.

Crossmaglen LGFA Notes

Safe Return to Play: Reminder for all parents and players, please ensure that all players bring and wearing their gumshields to all football.  This is compulsory in the GAA.  Also players should have their own water and gloves with them to training to ensure everyone’s safety at this time.
U14.5 Championship Final: Our squad took on Dromintee on Sunday evening at 5.30pm. From the first kick of the ball this game was end to end action. Great performances from senior players, seen us leading at 1/2 time. Dromintee rallied and used their extensive subs bench to put fresh legs on the field. This made the defence in the end, and Dromintee came away winners.
Well done to all the players and coaches involved in this squad.
This is actually the third year we  have played at u14, first year losing comprehensively to silverbridge and last year wining the div 2 league and championship. This year we had a young side, with lots of potential so we look forward to future success from them.
U10 & U12 training times this week:
Training continues on Monday and Wednesday night, meeting at 6.15pm on the Pairc Na Og.
Championship preparation is in full swing as we have the first round this weekend coming. The U12.5 girls will play Pontyzpass, time and venue to be confirmed.
Success for our Rambling Rangers! Massive congrats to Orla Donaldson & Orlaith Murtagh on winning another championship with Michael Cusacks in Australia.  We just love seeing how are ‘Rambling Rangers’ are getting on!

Keep an eye on our social media this week as we will be announcing a fantastic initiative by Cross Rangers LGFA which will keep us all motivated and healthy during the month of October.
