Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 24/06/19

Armagh SFL Rd 9
Maghery V Cross
On Friday night our senior team travelled  to Maghery. The first quarter saw the home side settle quickly, a free converted in the opening seconds to get the scoring underway. Mel Boye chipped over a point in the third minute to level matters. Maghery scored three points without reply  to give them an early lead,  a super strike from Mel which sailed over the bar left two between the sides as the game entered the second quarter.
Next to get his name on the scoresheet was Seanie McConville, Seanie slotted over a ‘45 to bring it back to a one point game. With ten to go until the break, we worked the ball well down the field to Cian who flicked the ball onto Mel and what was the score of the night, a rasper of a shot from the boot of Mel landed in the Maghery net to put us ahead for the first time in the match. We pushed on two points in quick succession, Mel (F) and Daniel Cumiskey and as the minutes ticked down on the clock to the break, we had a comfortable lead.
This lead was to be only short lived, the home side finished the half very strong, scoring 1-2 (1,F) in the closing minutes to leave it even stevens at the break.
Maghery  1-06  Cross 1-06
High drama ensued in the opening minutes of the second period, Gary Marshall awarded Maghery a penalty which they scored to regain the lead, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. They marched on, scoring a further 1-4 without reply to put them in a commanding position. Both sides scored two points a piece, Stephen Morris and Mel Boyce (F)  and with only minutes left until the full time whistle, Maghery slotted over a point before Mel Boyce scored two points to reduce the deficit but it want to be our night, Maghery  secured the points to stretch their lead at the top of the Division 1A league table.
Maghery 3-12 Cross 1-10

Cross Ladies Football Notes:

Good Luck to Armagh LGFA in the Ulster final!

We would like to begin by wishing Aveen, Mairead and the entire Armagh squad good luck for Ulster final Sunday. The final is taking place in Clones at 3.45pm. It is set to be a game not to be missed.

Games & Training Info:
U16’s away Monday night to Ballyhegan. Leaving the hall @6.15pm, Paul & Shannon will be in touch with further details.
Our senior ladies are on a roll in their league campaign, to date they have five wins and one draw after seven games. The girls were unfortunate in their most recent game to come away with a draw against Forkill. This week Senior & Minor Training Monday @ 7.45.
The U14 Championship against Shane O’Neill’s on Wednesday evening, and anyone who attended reported that it was an outstanding display of football. Shane’s took an early lead, knocking a goal and a point over in quick succession. However this rallied our players, and they dug deep using points to crawl back.  We seen impressive scores from Eimear Morgan, Kelly Shields, Eva Cassidy and Eimear McMahon. However it was a 15 player effort which pulled them over the line, and it can’t go unmentioned the tremendous team work among the backs and goal keeper. They demonstrate how to breakdown play, pushing Shane’s out to the wing into difficult positions. Megan Walsh and Clodagh Conway stopping balls with everything they’ve got and delivering it out to a Cross jersey every time. Crossmaglen come away with a convincing win in the end, but we can honestly say that the score line (5. 21 to 4. 06) does not reflect the pressure the Shane O’Neill’s put the girls under.
This week U14.5s away to Armagh Harps Thursday at 7:30pm, it is essential that all available players turn up. We are into Gaeltacht and holiday season, so everybody is needed to field a team.
The second leg of the U12.5 league will take place on Monday evening in Cullyhanna. Parents are asked to have the girls match ready, and dropped off at 6pm, the match will throw in at 6.30pm. There will be no U10 training this week dues to the game.
Registration: There are still some outstanding memberships for this season. Can all players ensure they are paid up as soon as possible? Membership can be given to any team manager.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Paul Hughes and Aimee Garvey who got engaged recently. Wishing you good heath, luck and happiness for the future Paul & Aimee.
