500,000 Steps Challenge

Sunday saw a very important event in our our club. A day which will be marked in our Club history for many years to come.
Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael John Horan visited St Oliver Plunkett Park. President Horan planted an apple blossom tree to symbolise youth and in particular the young of our club. Immediately afterwards the President cut the tape to officially launch our 500,000 Steps Challenge.
It was a marvellous celebration of Lá Raonaithe Óga, of all their participation achievements, successes and their mentors and coaches whose hard work, commitment and dedication are the very heartbeat of our club.
Thank you most sincerely to Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael John Horan and his wife Paula for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit our club, for planting the tree and for launching our Steps Challenge.
Thanks to all who sponsored the children, all monies raised will go towards maintaining and improving our underage structure.
Huge thanks to everyone within the club who assisted in any way to make the day such a success.

SFL Div 1A
Cross V Ballymacnab

After an eventful, enjoyable and historic morning in St Oliver Plunkett Park, all attention in the afternoon turned to the football field where our Senior game against Ballymacnab preceded the Intermediate clash with Tullysaran.
An overcast afternoon with a slight drizzle just before throw in left conditions nearly ideal for football.
A highly entertaining evenly matched first half saw some fine scores form both sides.
Our first goal of the game came as a result of a superb strike from the boot of Rían O’Neill with just over ten minutes on the clock played and give us the lead by two.
Both sides scored two points each and with ten left to the break, the sides were still separated by two.
A fantastic run down the middle by Aaron Kernan who put the ball over the bar to extend our lead . Ballymacnab fought back, getting the next three scores, three points in as many minutes to leave the game all square with minutes left until the break. Two points from us and a point from Ballymacnab left us ahead by one as the game entered injury time .Ballymacnab scored two quick points to edge them in front once more before a fantastic ball from Colin O’Connor to Kyle Carragher who fisted the ball into the back of the Ballymacnab net to give us our second goal and leave us two ahead but Ballymacnab responded hitting a point in the dying seconds of the first half to leave one between the teams at the half way point.
Cross 2-07 Ballymacnab 0-12
Heavy rain at half time left conditions very slippy for the second half.
The second half was only seconds old when an Oisín O’Neill point got the scoring underway. Ballymacnab got two quick points to level matters. Both sides scored two points each and with just over fifteen to go it was all square once again. A long range point from Ballymacnab and a ’45 which they converted put them in the lead. The last few minutes was a tense finale with Aaron Kernan converting a free in the closing minutes to leave the bare minimum between the sides once more but it wasn’t to be our day and Ballymacnab held on to their narrow lead to run out winners.
Cross 2-11 Ballymacnab 0-18

IFL Division 2B
Cross 2-13  Tullysaran 1-14

A great finish by the boys sealed the victory and secured the points for our Intermeduate team. Well done lads and management.
