Charlie Grant Cup Final
Mullaghbawn V Cross
Sunday evening we contested the Charlie Grant Cup Final. Both sides registered a point a piece in the opening minutes. We settled quickly scoring three points one after another and with ten to go until the break we had a comfortable lead.
Mullaghbawn slotted over a point to leave two the difference.
Against the rum of play Mullaghbawn scored a goal and for the first time in the match they took the lead by the narrowest of margins.
A Mullaghbawn point quickly followed. The dying minutes of the half we scored two points to leave it all square at half time;
Mullaghbawn 1-03 Cross 0-06
From the minute the ball was thrown in to get the second half underway, we were in full control and this was to be the pattern of the second half. Our first score of the second half coming in the third minute to give us the lead once more. We added another point before Mullaghabwn added a point to the scoreboard to bring it back to one.
It was to be a one point game for a very short time, we went on a scoring spree, scoring an impressive 2-06 without reply and we ran out worthy winners on a score line of;
Mullaghbawn  1-04 Cross 2-14

Many thanks to hosts Mullaghbawn and in particular Kieran O’Neill for the invite and hospitality.
Cross Ladies Football Notes:
Congratulations to the U16 squad, who played a stormer of a final Saturday night past. Pearse Ogs are a strong side and the players knew they would be up against it, as they were missing a key player due to illness.
The first half was neck and neck, and as every ball was contested with great zeal. Cross initially took the lead, but it wasn’t long until Pearse Ogs got a goal and led by two. Cross didn’t let this effect them and they also knocked a goal into the net. At half time Cross went ahead by two points, 2.05 to 2.03.
Both teams ran out onto the pitch, ready for action and it was clear it was going to be a very physical match. Cross were first to score, a sweet point from Kelly Shields. However, again Pearse Ogs upped the pace, and another goal meant they were even again.  The game to an unexpected turn, when Cross went down to 14 players, with a player sin binned with 13 minutes to go.
Every player had to give an extra 10%, and boy did they step up. Crossmaglen won the kick out and moved the ball quickly to Lucy Duffy, who knocked two consecutive points over the bar. Then we need the fantastic partnership, Melissa Hughes and Kelly Shields, push through and rattle the onion bag. Kelly and Lucy went on to score another point each and this sealed the deal. The final score 3.11 to 3.04!
This group has a small squad, but each one played their part in the win against Pearse Ogs, Well Done to Paul, Frank, Shannon and all of the players.
Games & Training Info:
U10 Owen Reel Blitz: 19 girls attended the Owen Reel blitz in Silverbridge on Sunday. We entered two teams to ensure all players got plenty of football. Team Amber and Black progressed to the Shield Competition but we both narrowly lost their semi-final. This was not a disappointment to us, as the  players were up against strong opposition.
U10 & U12 training has concluded for this Season. Thank to everyone for their support this year.
Minor training continues this week, as Championship starts in the coming week. Attendance is essential, anyone not available please give Paul or Frank notice.
