Rangers Retain U 21 Championship Title

Rangers captain Jamie Clarke accepts the Dean Keown U21 Championship cup from Paul McArdle Chairman of Armagh Football Board. Played in dry and bright conditions this delayed 2009 final between local rivals Cross and St Pats attracted a big crowd in Killeavey. Cross opened their account when a high ball from Darren Hughes dropped into the corner for a goal. Jamie Clarke scored the remainder of Rangers first half scores including a converted penalty after Francis Hanratty was hauled down as he went through on goal.  St Pats lived off frees converting 6 in the opening half leaving the score at half time Cross 2 – 02 St Pats 0 – 06.  Cross took control of the game in the second half and pulled away from St Pats converting  a total of 6 points, 2 from Jamie Clarke and 1 each from Francis Hanratty, Darren Hughes, Aaron Cunningham and Michael Lenaghan while St Pats added only a further 2 frees in the second period. Final score Cross 2 – 08 St Pats 0 – 08.
