Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 12/09/22

Armagh SFC Rd 1

Cross V Silverbridge

All roads led to the Athletic Grounds on Sunday. Torrential and persistent rain left conditions extremely slippy. The game was only seconds old when the opposition had registered their opening score, Jarly Og Burns, the scorer. Rian levelled matters in the fourth minute. Two points for Paddy Reel, (1F), stretched their  lead to two. Just before the mid way point, two points in quick succession for us, (Cian fisted over the bar and Callum from play) and once again the sides were even stevens. With such dreadful conditions, it was difficult to keep possession, the sides still couldn’t be separated in the minutes that followed, Sean Rock converted two frees for the bridge, Cian scored from a free and Paul from play. The final minutes of the half, it was still all square. Cian edged us in front, a  point from a free, the Bridge followed suit seconds later. It was Silverbridge’s turn to take the lead with a point from play but a super strike from Cian meant it was drawn again. Seconds before the whistle blew for half time, Jamie Martin scored from play and Rian slotted over a ‘45 to leave the score at the break;

Cross 0-8 Silverbridge 0-8

The opening minute of the second half, both sides added a point each to the scoreboard before high drama ensued, Silverbridge were awarded a penalty which Paddy Reel converted to give them the lead.  A point from play was added shortly afterwards and we now trailed by four. Nine minutes gone in the second half, a Silverbridge player was black carded. Two points without reply, Cian and Dara, and the gap was two but this was to be short lived, Silverbridge scored their second goal and as the game entered the last quarter, they had the momentum and a comfortable lead. We responded, seven points one after the other,  Rian, (4, 1 F, 1’45), Callum (2, 1F)  & Daniel Cumiskey from play and with three minutes of normal time remaining, we had a lead of two. Silverbridge slotted over a point from a free to leave the bare minimum between the sides as the game entered injury time. Five minutes of additional time was announced. A ‘45 for us was hit superbly by Rian to give us some breathing space before a super pass from Cian to Stringer, who blasted the ball in to the Bridge net. This was to be the last score of the game and we ran out on winners on a score line of;

Cross 1-19 Silverbridge 2-11
