Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 22/10/18.

Mr Paddy Kindlon Senior

When news broke on Saturday night that Paddy has passed away, we were immensely sad. Paddy, a true gentleman was devoted to the Crossmaglen Rangers Club.
Last year, when we celebrated twenty years from our first All Ireland win, I went to visit our President. Despite his frail health, Paddy was his usual friendly self and what a warm and hearty welcome I received.
Paddy had his club tie on and he reminisced about those glory days along with friends Noel & the Bishop. The craic was ninty! The visit couldn’t be complete without a photo shoot.
A lifelong committee member, loyal supporter and a true Gael, Paddy you will sorely missed.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Paddy’s Daughters, Carmel & Ann, Sons, Paddy, Gerard & Joe and the extended Kindlon family circle.

Cormac Leonard Senior Football Championship Final

Cross V Ballymacnab

A hard fought battle took place in the Athletic Grounds on Sunday. A County Final which will be remembered by many for a while to come, some superb scores from both sides ensured we had a fantastic encounter. The last quarter of the game we put our foot on the throttle and pushed on and ran out winners on a scoreline of;

Cross 0-24  Ballymacnab 1-15

Hard luck Ballymacnab and thanks for the good wishes.

Well done to Rían O’Neill on being awarded man of the match.

After the boys left the Athletic Grounds, a reception greeted them at our sponsor, Watters Old Coach Inn. A piper led the boys into the Coach followed by a champagne reception, what a joyous occasion. Thanks to Ray and staff for your warm reception, good food and above all, the craic!

There was great celebrations in the hall when the team arrived.

We now play Coalisland in the first round of the Ulster Championship which will take place in the Athletic Grounds in two weeks.

Philly McMahon

Over two hundred people were in the Rangers Hall on Thursday night where Philly McMahon hosted a talk. Philly spoke about the ‘first half ‘ of his life growing up in Ballymun and the challenges that he faced daily where drug abuse was rife, unemployment was high and housing was poor. It was at this early stage that he saw firsthand the wrong path his older Brother John took which ultimately led to his untimely death in 2012 from a drugs overdose and the impact this tragic event had on him and his family. Philly outlined that there is always other options and better options and that support is readily available.
He then spoke about his ‘second half’, his charity work which he set up in memory of John, his twice weekly visits to Mountjoy where he meets inmates and his commitment to continue helping addicts and their families and his ultimate goal to see the decriminalisation of drugs.
Many thanks to; Shorts Sports who sponsored the jersey which was presented to Philly, Ashfield Golf Course, Cullyhanna for your donation and to all who donated on the night. To Fiona Mccabe, Corliss for the Dublin flags and Shauna Dooley for the collection buckets.
Finally, huge thanks to Philly for taking time out of his busy schedule to come visit and speak to us, your an inspiration and we wish you many more years of good success, good health and happiness.
