Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes 06/11/17

Crossmaglen Rangers Club Notes

It was a busy weekend all round , our 100,000 Step Challenge on Saturday and on Sunday a clash of fixtures saw both our U16’s and U21’s in action .

Paul McGirr Ulster U16 Club Champions Tournament
On Sunday our U16 team travelled to Dromore to play Lavey in the Paul McGirr Ulster U16 Club Champions Tournament .
It was a highly entertaining competitive encounter played in cold and dismal conditions .
Lavey were quick to settle registering three points before we hit our opening score , a point from corner back Oran McKeown in the ninth minute .
Points from Dara O’Callaghan (2) and Oísín Doyle in the next ten minutes put us in the lead for the first time . Some great passing movement resulted in a superb shot from the boot of Patsy Finnegan which ended up in the back of the Lavey net and give us our first goal of the match and put us in a more comprehensive lead but Lavey fought back and with minutes to go until the half time whistle they were awarded a penalty which they converted to leave just the bare minimum separating the sides . As the game entered the final stages of the first period Oisín Doyle and Liam Finnegan scored a point each to leave us three ahead at the break .
The second half was only seconds old when a great pass from Dara O’Callaghan to full forward Shane Morgan who finished the ball into net . Two points for each side (James Teelan & Shane Morgan ) kept our lead secure and in the final minutes of the game Lavey got their final score , a point but we finished the game strong with points from Patsy Finnegan and Dara O’Callaghan helping to seal the victory .
Cross 2-11  Lavey 1-06

U21 Championship Group B 2
We welcomed Armagh Harps to Cross on Sunday for our round 2 clash of the U21 Championship .
Better performance today from U21s. Cross started well and went into an early lead which we held throughout. We went in ahead by 0-11 to 1-04 at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern and Cross ran out convincing winners
Final score ;
Cross 1-15 Harps 2-07.
