Senior A League

Maghery V Cross
On Friday night our seniors travelled to Maghery. A beautiful warm evening left conditions ideal for football.
Both sides converted frees in the opening five minutes to get the scoring underway, Aaron Kernan the scorer for us.
The rest of the half remained a very close and tight encounter both sides scoring like for like , Rían (’45), Aaron(3,1F) our point takers and an Oisín O’Neill point in the closing minutes of the first half left us ahead by the bare minimum at the break.
Maghery 0-05 Cross 0-06
High drama would be the best way to describe the opening minutes of the second half. A fantastic kick from Rían O’Neill to Kyle Carragher who caught the ball, turned and headed for goal before been dragged down in the Maghery goal mouth resulted in a penalty. A composed Rían O’Neill struck the ball superbly into the roof of the Maghery net and put us in a comfortable lead. Minutes later down the opposite end of the field, Kevin Falloon awarded Maghery a penalty but a different outcome was to be, thanks to a great save from Paul Hearty. Two points from each side, Micéal McCabe and Rían O’Neill left four between the sides with twenty on the clock.
Paul Hearty made another excellent save to prevent Maghery from
narrowing the lead. As the game entered the final quarter the Maghery goalie converted a ’45 to leave just three between the sides.
A High ball into the forwards saw a scramble for the ball and Colin O’Connor got the ball across the Maghery line to give us our second goal and increase our lead.
A super long range point from Rían O’Neill was quickly followed by a Maghery point from a free and a goal to leave three between the sides once more.
But we pushed on with Paudie Stuttard and Oisín O’Neill outstanding and in the final minutes of the game we scored six points in as many minutes, Oisín O’Neill(3), Rían O’Neill(1), Paudie Stuttard(1) and Aaron Kernan(1). The game entered injury time and Maghery got the last score of the game, a point from a free.
It was a fantastic all round team performance with a special mention for our goalkeeper Paul Hearty. Paul proved on Friday night that the old saying is correct “life truly does begin at 40”!!!!!!!! Happy birthday Paul.
Well done lads and management.

Intermediate B League

Cross V Shane O’Neills
On Wednesday evening our intermediate team welcomed Shane O’Neill’s to Cross for their league fixture.
The first half was low scoring and evenly matched encounter with Ryan Conlon scoring four of our five points. At the half way point the sides were level at five a piece.
Shane O’Neills got off to a dream start with a goal not long after the ref threw the ball in to commence the second half. We responded immediately with a Ryan Conlon point . The game saw a lengthy spell where neither sides scored. With just over ten on the clock, Ryan Conlon scored a hat trick of points( 2,F) to edge us in front and as the game entered the final seconds Shane O’Neills scored a point to leave it all square once again in normal time. The game entered injury time and it looked like it would end in a draw before the opposition scored a point and their second goal in quick succession to secure the points. Hard luck lads.
Cross 0-09 Shane O’Neills 2-07
