James Hughes Cup

A glorious warm day on Saturday left conditions ideal for football. We welcomed teams from near and far to St Oliver Plunkett Park. Nine counties were represented.
A great sporting occasion and a highly entertaining day was had all which was a fitting tribute to a true Cross Ranger, James RIP.
Many thanks to our main sponsor Cullington Properties- Brendan Quinn Construction and also to Centra Crossmaglen for your generous sponsorship.
Well done to our Coaching Officer Tony Brady, Shane Murphy, Johnny Savage, Aidan Meegan and all the mentors who worked so hard in the run up to Saturday’s tournament and during the day to ensure everything went smoothly and to everyone assisted throughout the day, thank you so much, your contribution ensured the event was a huge success.
Congratulations to Dromintee who beat Kildress to win the James Hughes Cup. An extremely close final with Dromintee getting the last score of the game to get them over the line. Well done to our U10 teams who played some fantastic football. A super point from Rían Bellew against Mullahorn in the semi final booked us a place in the Shield final. Mullahorn manager, Sean Smith tweeted that the golden point reminded him of 1998.
We played Dundalk side Sean O’Mahonys in the Shield final. The Cross boys played with great grit and determination but it wasn’t to be their day. Congratulations to Sean O’Mahonys, winners of the Shield.
Well done to all teams and their mentors who participated, you were brilliant and a true example of what is good about Gaelic games. The future is bright. We look forward to welcoming you all again next year.
Finally, a special mention for the Hughes family, thanks for all your assistance on Saturday and ongoing support for the club.

Cullyhanna V Cross

On Sunday afternoon our seniors travelled to Cullyhanna for their Senior league fixture with neighbours Cullyhanna.
The first half saw a very even encounter with both sides scores evenly matched.
With minutes to until half time , Cullyhanna scored a goal and just at the thirtieth minute, a great high ball in from the boot of Mickey McNamee saw a scramble for the ball which resulted in Aaron Kernan putting the ball into the back of the Cullyhanna net.
The sides were just separated by a point at half time;
Cullyhanna 1-07 Cross 1-06
Aaron Kernan started off the scoring in the second half converting a free but Cullyhanna took control of the game scoring 1-02 in a space of five minutes. We responded scoring two points to reduce the deficit but Cullyhanna pushed on scoring five points in quick succession and as the game drew to a close we scored a point but it was to be Cullyhanna’s day and they won a scoreline of;

Cullyhanna 2-14 Cross 1-10

U12 Blitz; Cooley Kickhams
Another good performance by the lads. Got to the quarter final of the cup but lost by one. Great effort by all. Well done boys.

Well Done

Well done to Rían O’Neill and the Armagh  U20 Squad and management to beat Tyrone in an epic battle played in the Athletic Grounds on Friday night. For me like so many others  it was the first time I was at a match where there was extra time on top of extra time. Incredible game. Armagh will play Derry in the Erigrid Ulster Final and the match will be a curtain raiser to the Senior Ulster Football Final on 24th June.
Congratulations also to Armagh Senior Team/ Management who had a good win on Saturday night against Westmeath in the Qualifiers.

Shannon Keady

During the week we received a letter from Shannon Keady, Daughter of the late hurling great Tony Keady.
Shannon told us all about the book, “One Hundred And Ten Percent Legend” written by Meath man Liam Hayes which tells Tony  Keady’s amazing story.
As a tribute to her Dad she would like the book to be the No 1 book in the country before her Dad’s first anniversary in August.
With Fathers Day coming up this would make an ideal present.

Fathers Day

With next Sunday being Father’s Day, we would like to wish all our Daddies and Grandas a very Happy Fathers Day. Hope you all have a lovely day.
