Armagh Cormac Leonard Senior Football Championship Final

Cross V Maghery

All roads led to Armagh on Sunday. The U15’s were in action first in Abbey Park and then it was the Athletic Grounds for our senior final clash against Maghery. Both sides scored a point in the opening minutes before a Maghery goal in the fifth minute give then an early lead. We had a number of missed opportunities before three unanswered points from Oisin (2F) to leave the game all square at the first water break. As play resumed, two more points from the boot of Oisin which was matched by Maghery and as the clock ticked down until the break, the sides couldn’t be separated. We then had our best spell of the match, five points in as a many minutes  to put us in a comfortable position but unfortunately, against the run of play in those dying seconds, Maghery scored their second goal to leave the score at the mid way point;

Cross 0-11 Maghery 2-3

Maghery were quick off the mark, not long after Kevin Faloon had the ball thrown in, they had scored four points one after another to put them ahead by two. A Kyle Carragher point brought it back to a one point game but this was to be short lived, two goals in quick succession for the opposition and they were in a commanding position as the game entered the last quarter. Our boys never give up, two points both from frees converted reduced the deficit but Maghery remained in firm control of the game, two more points added to their tally. Rian slotted over a point which Maghery matched. In the dying minutes, we were unfortunate a number of attacks didn’t result in scores but it wasn’t to be our day. We scored the last score of the contest, a point to leave the score at full time;

Cross 0-17 Maghery 4-10

Hard luck to the team, Stephen, Jim, Francis, Ciaran and all the back room team. We are so proud of you all. Well done to all our supporters who came to St Oliver Plunkett Park tonight to welcome the boys home. Congratulations to Maghery.
